Ene Nyame 'A' Mensuro

House and Highlife. Here are two fundamentally different styles of music originating from 2 entirely different continents; House came to fruition in the early to mid 1980’s in Chicago, America, Highlife was born during the early 20th century in West Africa, Ghana. Put simply, they are both fantastic dance music genre’s in their own right but they also couldn’t be further apart on the music spectrum. Now imagine hearing a transformation of a classic highlife track into a smooth house groove that you might hear on the dance floor. It would be entirely understandable if at first thought you were sceptical about this concept and came to the conclusion that mixing the two genre’s would be bonkers and simply wouldn’t work. Now listen to German, House music giant Henrik Schwarz’s remix of Ebo Taylor & Pat Thomas’ track ‘Ene Nyame ‘A’ Mensuro (Henrik Schwarz Blend)’, released on the Strut Record Label earlier this year (2015). This track is just phenomenal. As I hope you will agree, Schwarz has created a truly beautiful remix. The way that he has transformed the core melody from the original track into a seductive housey hook that rings throughout the song and then mixes this with the original vocals and horns is quite an achievement; Hats off to Mr. Schwarz!

Henrik Schwarz is a big name in the dance music world and for good reasons. His brilliant production skills are something that many DJ’s around the globe respect and admire but no doubt envy too. His original compositions are significant and popular amongst the record spinning community, however, where he has really flourished is with his remixes; he is no doubt one of the all time great producers on this front. This also explains how he has managed to transform Ebo Taylor & Pat Thomas’s song so magnificently. After all, he has made a seemingly impossible infusion a reality, something that can surely only be achieved by someone who is a true master of his trade.
